Friday, July 07, 2006 : World Cup Dream Team- Ladies Edition
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike says:
So looks like it's Italy vs France in the World Cup finals in Berlin.
So whatcha think? Forza Italia or Viva Le France?

Personally, since I'm an Arsenal supporter I'd like to see our favourite king, Thierry Henry, return home as a World Cup champion. Plus it's only fitting for the greatest ever footballer to go out in style, Zinedine Zidane!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ever since the tournament begun, I've been surprised at the number of girls who've attentively watched most of the televised World Cup matches.
Obviously I know that most of them are watching only for the 'hot footballers'.

Plus lately I've been coming up with so many football posts that haven't pleased my female readers.
So today, I shall try to please my female readers by coming up with a Fantasy Football team comprising of the best looking stars of the World Cup, who've also performed exceptionally well.
Believe me, the process of making the team is making me quite gay.

Now, the only two rules I had to follow in constructing this team was that I couldn't pick two players from the same country and I wasn't going to comment about their looks or body because first of all I'm not gay and it's very wrong for me to do that so please stop touching my body.

Goalkeeper: Iker Casillas, Spain.

The Real Madrid custodian had kept three clean sheets in the group stages before making it to the second round.

The future of the country and at his tender young age of 24, has already 3 Champions League medals and 2 La Liga medals in his pocket.

Personally, he's one of my favourite keepers and it would be nice to see him at Arsenal some day =D

Left Back: Harry Kewell, Australia.

Ok, so he's not exactly a natural left back but it was very hard to find a fitting left back with the good looks that fit especially with the thick eyebrows of Phillip Lahm and the halo-styled bald spot on Scott Chipperfield.

Even then, Harry Kewell is the best all-rounded player out there capable playing any position, next to club mate Steven Gerrard.

He can cross and shoot with both his left and right feet and is also good at going up and down. Was playing in a defensive position during Liverpool's Champions League win over AC Milan in which he sadly succumbed to an ankle injury after 34 minutes.

Right Back: Arne Friedrich, Germany.

The unsung hero of Germany's overachieving squad which reached the semi-finals. Arne Friedrich is good at going up and defending and can fit in at a central position too.

Still only in his early 20's, Arne Friedrich is one defender for the future.

Sweeper: Fabio Cannavaro, Italy.

Arguably Italy's best player of the tournament so far, he's in the contention to win the Golden Ball award. In fact, he's probably the favourite to win the award.

Standing at only 5'9 (HAH! I'm taller!), he's surprisingly good in the air and specialises in marking the big men forward (like Jan Koller and Peter Crouch). So then I guess it would be no surprise that he's also good at set pieces as well.

Even with the scandal surrounding his club, Juventus, the Italy captain still mantained his composure in guiding his team to the finals of the World Cup (and possibly winning it).

Stopper: Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, Japan.

Best remembered as Zorro from the previous World Cup where he had to wear a protective mask around his face to guard a broken nose.

The Blue Samurai's captain was the easiest inclusion into my squad because of his capability as an all-round complete defender.
Able to fit in anywhere in defense, Miyamoto is quick on the ground and good in the air.

Though reliable, Miyamoto is also known in his country as one of the most unlucky players ever, where a work permit problem stopped his dreams of playing with West Ham United and two yellow cards against Croatia and Australia made him miss his country's final game against Brazil.

Right Winger: David Beckham, England.

Who else could have fitted the bill any better? Golden balls and his famous right foot couldn't be left out of any dream team even if it were constructed by a straight guy (which I am).

He created the own goal in the opening game against Paraguay and scored from a remarkable perfectly judged free-kick in the game against Equador, the England captain had a fairly well World Cup if only the team he captained wasn't knocked out by Phil Scolari's side for three tournaments in a rown in the quarter finals.

Fashion icon, football icon, chic magnet. That's David Beckham.
I wonder how many girls would've been pissed at me if I did not include him in my side.

Left Winger: Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal.

Me. Silky skills and quick feet brought the world to stand up on the edge of their seats at every game he plays at.
Although he doesn't pass the ball much, his footwork on the ball allows him to dance pass defenders very easily which is why he is so dangerous.

He's the youngest player to score for his country and the youngest player to score for his country in the World Cup, the world has witnessed the middle of the beginning of the birth of a true star.

Holding Midfielder: Fredrik Ljungberg, Sweden.

Known better as the Calvin Klein underwear guy, Fredrik Ljungberg is another all-round player who can also play as a striker, winger (both left and right) and playmaker.

He scored the winner in his country's game against Paraguay in the dying minutes, Freddy Ljungberg is an exciting player to watch.

The Arsenal man's contribution to his country has made him a cult hero for the young lads of the country although it may surprise most that he's more worshipped in Sweden than in London.
Yes, he's that popular over there.

Playmaker: Kaka, Brazil.

Brazil's World Cup winner from the 2002 squad.
Before Brazil played against France, they had scored an "uninspiring" 3-0 win over Ghana, scored by the much more popular Ronaldo, Adriano and Ze Roberto but Kaka helped set up all three.

Scored a beautiful game-winning goal against Croatia in Brazil's opening game, Kaka (whose full name is Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite) made the move from Sao Paolo to AC Milan after scoring 10 goals in 20 appearances as a midfielder.
There will be more to come from this unbelievable player in the future.

Forward: Robin Van Persie, The Netherlands.

Yes, another Arsenal player.
A povital part of Holland's squad, his lethal partnership with Arjen Robben has been one of the revelations of this year's World Cup... or at least in their first game.
Van Persie made a name for himself with his thunderous left foot (who could forget that free kick against the Ivory Coast?). So powerful,in fact, that the wall standing in front of him when a free kick is lined up, trembles when they find out who the taker is.

Robin Van Persie deserved a starting place against Portugal instead of the misfiring horse-faced Ruud Van Nistelrooy and who knew, perhaps Holland could have won if he had started.

Main Striker: Andriy Shevchenko, Ukraine.

One of the main reasons, or possibly the only reason, why Ukraine went as far as the quarter finals... or were even in the World Cup in the first place.
Shevchenko was their leading scorer in qualifying and was former European Player of The Year (that is, before Ronaldinho grabbed it from him the following year).

He scored twice in the entire World Cup to cap off a remarkable year for him.
A summer move to Chelsea ($%#&!!!) is on the cards for him after six wonderful years with AC Milan where he became a legend scoring 150+ goals.

The Team

Of course, alot may argue that many heroes of the World Cup are missing from that squad and that's why I've taken the liberty to create another squad with all the other performing players at the World Cup.

The only problem is, since this entry is a lil for the ladies, the looks of the other players don't do much justice.
So here's my plan, why not I change the faces of the other players so they all look much better looking and presentable.

So here it is.

Wow, now I think based on looks alone this dream team can beat the previous dream team flat.

Damnit, now I really feel gay after doing one entire post on good looking guys. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go touch myself.

I told you I chose most of the players regarding performance + looks. I had my expert opinions from wai cheen btw.

That's why I didn't wanna put Ballack, Raul or Owen, cuz they sucked this World Cup.
BTW, many girls dont like Lahm...
