Sunday, April 09, 2006 : Interact IU Day 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike says:
I went to the cybercafe to get thrashed by game with Chiak,
Kington and some more friends on Saturday.
So after playing Counter Strike, we were having a hard time deciding what game to play. That's when I noticed this.
Respect to the person who can mnage to play more than a day in a row.

btw, due to demand by lead singer of Calling Redemption, Ming Han, i have taken the edgy veideo off my blog..along with the other video which was blocking the flow. E-mail me if you want the YouTube URL to either videos though...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Interact Club of SMK Damansara Utama had it's IU Day (International Understanding Day) on Saturday. Initially I didn't have any real plans of going since all Leo's who went were required to wear their bloody Leo vests.
Furthermore, tickets were 5 bucks to Interactors and 8 bucks to anyone who wasn't an Interact... until Chiak told me about his special offer- everybody's an Interactor...

Good one, Chiak...

So anyway, Ming Han's band, Calling Redemption previously known as Untitled University Unicorn Undecided, was gonna be performing and I wanted to 'experience' them for the second time.

Calling Redemption aka Undecided: Ming Han, Charles, Josh, Amir and Jeff. Wahlaneh like big time rock band just arrive from airport can?

So Chiak and I went together to our school for the IU event. Kinda weird cuz no informal event, in our 5 years at the school, has ever been held at the school itself before except for the Battle Of The Bands in 2003.
I guess our school principle finally did something right (at least) by making our school available for hosting our OWN events.

So Chiak and I were chatting with some friends and taking pictures outside the hall when we noticed how awkwardly the Interactors were dressed... but then again the theme was French Connection so that meant everybody had to dress like Quasimodo from The Hunchback of Notredamme.

So after chatting and taking some pictures, we proceeded to the hall.

Candid, but artistic, shot of MKland staring off into nothing...

Melody and Vineeta...

MKland, me and my Leo vest, Calling Redemption's guitarist Amir and Melody...

Calling Redemption, my classmates and some of Chiak classmates settled at two tables rather uncomfortably as the event started (we moved from one table and one seat to the next for some reason unknown to mankind).

So the event started with an opening performance by all the Interactors, followed by some speeches and then a dance to Me Against the Music from Britney Spears and Time Goes By Con Loli Madonna.

Next up were singing performances by Carynn (All You Wanted by Michelle Branch) and Sam (an ex-form 5 who sang I'll Be by Edwin McCain).

Tat Ren and Carynn. Three thumbs up to Carynn's performance.

Carynn's singing was arguably the highlight of the event. I mean she has an incredible voice. Tat Ren must be proud to have her. Innit right nigga?
After that was a dance by the hot chics from 5 Kempas (Chiak's class. Lucky bastard).

Next up was the break. Unfortunately the given food gave me a stomache ache later that day. knnccb...
After the break was Hueyyi's performance on stage, singing She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5.

Ming Han and Hueyyi...

I guess she was ok in a way that she'd get half a vote from Randy Jackson, a thumbs up from Paula Abdul and harsh criticism from Simon Cowell. Comparing her with Carynn would've been like comparing a pariah to a golden retreiver, so let's not go there. She was just ok.

After that was a couple more dances then another break. knnccb...

After the break was another dance then the moment I've been waiting for.
MK Land, Seng Yau and Kah Joo had put off their sleep for this very event.

Calling Redemption LIVE!!!

They opened their act with Meant To Live by Switchfoot, then Spin by Lifehouse before finishing with Stars by Switchfoot.

So ladies and gentlemen, Meant To Live by Calling Redemption.

Sadly though, their performance didn't really live up to expectations.
And it all boilt down to the song selections of Ming Han.
Put it this way la, it would've done the audience better justice if the plug on the mic was disconnected. Sorry Ming Han, but it was that bad and I think you know that.
Please stick to songs from 3 Doors Down and The Calling.

Closing the event were the 5 Keruing shufflers. Their shuffle isn't probably as good as, say, the Melbourne Shuffle but still, they were damn good.

At the end of their performance, they called the anyone who'd like to join them on stage, and that's when all hell broke loose.

If you look hard enough though, you'll notice some good shuffles from Edbert (guy in red on far left) and Jin Hong (guy in the white shirt and cap in the middle).

After that, it was off to the cybercafe.
Sorry if this entry is a lil harsh or hard to understand but it's fucking hard to type and think when my sister's blasting Disney songs out loud downstairs. Grrr!!
Next time I swear I'll blast my metal music to disturb her cartoons. Muahahaha!
